Local Council Guidelines for Cafe Barriers & Market Umbrellas in Darwin & Alice Springs

Awnet are market leaders in commercial, al fresco dining furniture. Our line of market umbrellas and barriers will shelter your customers from rain, wind and sun, while also adding aesthetic appeal to your establishment. They are the ideal choice for businesses that cannot install an awning or veranda.

Councils within the same city often have different policies concerning cafe barriers and umbrella products. The information we provide on this page, should only be used as a reference guide. We advise that you directly contact the local council in your area for specific regulations.

Darwin City Council Footpath Dining Policy

Footpath area and Conditions

It is essential that you provide a head clearance for pedestrians of a minimum of 2.1m for cafe umbrellas. If you would like to place additional furniture, besides tables and chairs, on a footpath, approval must be obtained from the Director Technical Services Department of the Darwin City Council prior to commencement.

Street Furniture

Off-street storage for furniture is required when not in use. This is because outside of operation, all furniture must be removed from the footpath.
